Objectives£ºIn this study, we attempted to compare the motivation for change between long-term and short-term ab-stinent alcoholics in community, and find out the differences in motivational subtypes(recognition, ambivalence, taking steps or action).
Methods£º The participants were 40 adults with Alcohol Use Disorder in community and divided by between groups of long-term and short-term abstinent alcoholics. The three motivational construct of The SOCRATES-K(Recognition of problems, Ambivalence about change, taking steps to change) were used as measures of motivation for change. One- way MANOVA was done to theses two group.
Results£º According to the result of analysis, long-term abstinent participants reported significantly higher levels of recognition and taking steps but lower level of ambivalence. This finding means that a greater length of sobriety de-creased self-reported levels of ambivalence about change and increased problem recognition and taking steps toward change.
Conclusion£º This study demonstrated motivation could be changed by a length of sobriety. Finally, we discuss about the suggestion of the result, the meaning, the restriction of this study and next study.
